How it works
Convert hourly pay and annual salary
A useful conversion depends on both weekly hours and paid working weeks. Adjust those assumptions instead of relying on a fixed 40-hour, 52-week schedule.
Hourly to annual formula
Multiply the hourly rate by expected hours per week, then multiply by working weeks per year. For example, $25 x 40 x 52 equals $52,000 before taxes and deductions. Hourly rate to annual salary shows what the 40 by 52 shortcut does to a schedule that is not 40 by 52, where it can overstate a year by thousands.
Annual to hourly formula
Divide annual salary by total working hours for the year. Total working hours equal weekly hours multiplied by working weeks.
Monthly pay is an average
The monthly result divides annual pay by 12. Actual paychecks may follow weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly payroll schedules. Biweekly vs semi-monthly pay covers why 26 checks and 24 checks are different sizes on the same salary.
What is not included
The estimate does not include overtime, unpaid leave, bonuses, benefits, taxes, or payroll deductions.
