Sentence Case Converter for Normal Writing

Paste your text and this converter puts it in sentence case: the first letter is a capital and the rest is lowercase, the way ordinary writing looks.

Convert case

Switch text between upper case, lower case, sentence, title, capitalize, and alternating case. The output box updates as you type, so you see the case converted before you copy anything.

What this converter does

the meeting IS on friday

The meeting is on friday

When sentence case is what you want

This is the format for normal prose. It is the quickest fix for a line typed with caps lock on, for text pasted out of a document that was set in capitals, and for headings in the many style guides that now prefer sentence case over title case.

A note on names

The tool lowercases everything before capitalizing the first letter, so names and places come back lowercase too. After converting, put the capitals back on any proper nouns. There is no reliable way for a converter to know that "friday" or "sarah" should keep a capital.

Common questions

How do I change text to sentence case?

Paste the text above and choose Sentence. The first letter becomes a capital and everything else becomes lowercase.

Will it capitalize names and days of the week?

No. It capitalizes only the first letter, so proper nouns come back lowercase and need fixing by hand afterwards.

What is the difference between sentence case and title case?

Sentence case capitalizes only the first letter, so it reads like normal writing. Title case capitalizes the main words and suits headings.

Is the sentence case converter free?

Yes. It is free to use online in any browser and nothing you paste is uploaded.
