When you need capitals turned into lowercase
The usual reason is caps lock left on for a paragraph. It also happens with text copied out of a PDF, a scanned form, or a legal document, where whole sections are set in capitals. Product codes and headings pulled from a spreadsheet often arrive shouting too.
Doing the same thing in Word and Excel
In Microsoft Word, select the text and press Shift and F3 to cycle through lowercase, capitalised, and uppercase. In Excel, the formula is =LOWER(A1), pointing at the cell you want changed. This page is quicker when the text is coming from somewhere else, or when you do not want a formula column.
