The usual reason is caps lock left on for a paragraph. It also happens with text copied out of a PDF, a scanned form, or a legal document, where whole sections are set in capitals. Product codes and headings pulled from a spreadsheet often arrive shouting too.
In Microsoft Word, select the text and press Shift and F3 to cycle through lowercase, capitalized, and uppercase. In Excel, the formula is =LOWER(A1), pointing at the cell you want changed. This page is quicker when the text is coming from somewhere else, or when you do not want a formula column.
